- Why has OLX introduced a chat limit?
OLX was FREE and will always remain FREE for consumers for both listings and chat. The chat limit is intended to reduce spam, repetitive or unwanted enquiries, and misuse of the chat functionality. This helps create a better experience for genuine buyers and sellers by encouraging more relevant conversations. For dealers: Dealers can purchase Elite buyer packages to whitelist and safeguard their business interests.
- Why can't I use Chat, Call or Make Offer?
For users who have reached the applicable chat limit, new contact actions such as Chat, Call and Make Offer may be restricted in that category. You can regain access by purchasing the applicable Elite Buyer package or by waiting until the restriction period ends.
- Can I still use OLX after reaching the limit?
Yes. You can continue browsing listings and using your existing conversations. The restriction applies only to new chat initiations in the affected category.
- How long will the restriction last?
The restriction is temporary, and the timeline will be visible when initiating a new chat. Once the applicable restriction period ends, your free chat counter will reset, and you can resume initiating new chats within the applicable limits.
- Can I continue chatting without waiting for the restriction to end?
Yes. If you need uninterrupted access to new chats, you can purchase an Elite Buyer package for the applicable category. Elite Buyer provides unlimited chats in that category during the package validity period.
- Will my chats be counted when I have an active Elite Buyer package?
No. Chats initiated while your Elite Buyer package is active are not counted towards the free chat limit for that category, as the Elite Buyer package is free from the chat-limit restriction
- What happens when my Elite Buyer package expires?
Once your package expires, the normal free-chat limits apply again. If your original restriction period has already ended, you can continue using free chats under the applicable limits. If the restriction is still active, new chat initiation will remain restricted until the restriction period ends.
- I am a genuine buyer. Why am I affected?
We understand that many users reaching the limit may have genuine requirements. The restriction is based on chat activity and is not a judgement about the user's intent. The objective is to manage excessive chat activity, reduce spam and unwanted interactions, and keep the marketplace useful for genuine buyers and sellers.
- Will these packages be limited to a category, and can I purchase multiple packages in one and multiple categories at one time?
Packages will be category-specific, and multiple packages can be bought for different categories at the same time.
Buying an elite buyer package with the chat unlock feature for a specific category and location will give access to the phone numbers of the sellers for that location, and the unlimited chats feature for any part of India irrespective of location.
If you wish to unlock the phone numbers of the sellers of another package, please buy an elite buyer package for that location separately.
- What happens if my Elite Buyer package expires before the restriction period ends? Or vice versa.
If a user has previously reached the chat activity limit and the original restriction period is still in effect, they will continue to be subject to the same restriction. When attempting to start a new chat, the user will see the Elite Buyer purchase option and will remain restricted until the existing restriction period ends or an Elite Buyer package is purchased.
- Will my historical chats be considered at launch?
Yes. At launch, chat activity patterns will be assessed to determine whether a user has exceeded the established chat threshold. This assessment is based solely on chat activity and is intended to support a healthy marketplace experience.
- What happens to users who already have Elite Buyer at the time of launch?
If you already have an Elite Buyer package, the unlimited chat access will be there until the package expires.
I understand the chat limit is imposed on the buyer; however, please clarify if there are restrictions on receiving chats from the seller or not?
There is no restriction on ongoing chat conversations with a seller. The chat limit only applies to initiating new chats and is designed to reduce spam, repetitive enquiries, and misuse of the chat functionality. Once a conversation has been started, buyers and sellers can continue communicating without any limitation.
Please note that each category has a predefined limit on the number of chats that can be initiated as a buyer. Kindly refer to the category-wise chat thresholds applicable below.
Once the category-specific chat threshold is reached, buyers will no longer be able to initiate new conversations within that category. To continue engaging with sellers beyond the allotted chat limit, a chat limit package must be purchased for the respective category. Upon activation, the package enables buyers to initiate additional chats beyond the standard threshold, ensuring uninterrupted communication with sellers.
